THE search is on for this tourist after his GoPro camera was fished out of the Tweed River filled with precious memories of a round-the-world trip.

Lower Beechmont resident Steve Carmody retrieved the camera after it washed up near Fingal two weeks ago.

While the camera was broken, the 32GB of photos and videos survived.

It even reveals how the camera was lost — on a kayak trip on the river.

“He has been to New York, he has been to Arizona, to the Grand Canyon and was playing football in Fiji … so they are precious memories,” Mr Carmody said.

“The last thing (on the camera) is he is kayaking with three or four other people at Fingal and he has flipped and then all you see is water and sand until it turns itself off.

“I thought if these were my memories, I would love to get them back so I took one photo of him and put it on Facebook and shared it publicly.

“I thought I would have started to get some nibbles when it got shared on a couple of the backpacker sites, but nothing.”

Mr Carmody’s Facebook post has received more than 6500 shares.

The mystery man is described as fair, with strawberry blonde hair and commonly wears sunglasses with groups of people.

Despite also putting posters around local business, Mr Carmody fears the visitor is long gone.

“I put a poster at the caravan park, emailed the surf club and put one at the local shop as soon as we found it, but nothing,” he said.

Mr Carmody said he wouldn’t give up hope and would keep the memory card safe.

“If the guy messages me and sends me a photo of himself I will go, ‘that’s you’, and send it back to him.”
