THE Apple iPhone 6 Plus phablet has changed the way we use our smartphone, sending people around the world scrambling to watch video on their bigger and better screens, a global report has found.
The Citrix Mobile Analytics Report, which looks at the a global cross section of mobile network usage for 2015, found that Apple fans who own a 5-inch iPhone 6 Plus use twice as much data as those with the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.
The report attributes that extra data demand to a insatiable hunger for video for those people with the bigger screen phablet.
That increased appetite for watching video on our smartphones shows up in the games we play.
The report found the top five games we play on our smartphone all have video, a significant change from 12 months ago when only two of the top five games contained video.
The list of top games we play also shows that while we might become addictive to the latest smartphone game we soon move on to find something new.
The top smartphone games for 2015 are: CSR Racing; Diamond Dash; Top Eleven; Hay Day; and Subway Surfers.
Only two of those featured in the top five games in the first quarter of last year and none made the top five in 2013, when we were addicted to relatively simple games like Words With Friends, Solitaire and Angry Birds.
Aside from the demand for video, the report shows that we increasingly use our smartphones to help us stay fit.
The report found 78 per cent of mobile subscribers are using fitness apps, up from 39 per cent in 2013.
The report also looked at the way we turn to our smartphone when it comes to finding love.
When we’re looking for a partner looks really matter — 61 per cent of smartphone mobile dating data traffic is looking at pictures.
And the report also pinpointed when single people feel most lonely.
It’s not late at night when they tuck themselves into bed that people mainly turn to dating apps, but when they sit down to dinner at 6pm and wish they had someone to sit with them.
