LIVERPOOL did the right thing in not signing a striker this winter, club legend Jamie Carragher believes.

The Reds were in for a host of frontmen, including Inter's Mauro Icardi, but shied away from a deadline day deal and at one point looked set to lose Rickie Lambert to Aston Villa.
They have just four recognised strikers: Lambert, Faboio Borini, the tempestuous Mario Balotelli and Daniel Sturridge, who is only just returning to full fitness after a five-month layoff.
Even Raheem Sterling has played the centre-forward role in Sturridge's absence.
And Carragher believes the Anfield club have enough firepower to get through to the end of the season, where they must then add forward recruits.
“There are always areas that you would like to strengthen, but it is a matter of whether you can get the right players in January,” Carragher said.
“Liverpool’s problem of late is that they are not scoring the goals that their play deserves.
“But with Sturridge back now, he will play, and as they play a system of one striker, they are probably better off waiting until the end of the season.”
Carragher was speaking at an enrolment day for The Jamie Carragher Sports & Learning Academy.
