Rebel MPs plan to sabotage Cameron's three-parent baby bill

The three-parent baby bill would allow women with diseases to have healthy children

Conservative MP Fiona Bruce has tabled a wrecking amendment which will come before MPs on Tuesday. 

It calls for Parliament to reject the proposals to let the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority license clinics for mitochondrial replacement therapy. 

An Early Day Motion signed by six cross-party MPs has also called for the vote to be delayed until the results of safety tests are released. 

Last night Ms Bruce said: “A number of world leading scientists are expressing grave concerns about these procedures and even those promoting these techniques are unable to assure us they are safe. 

“Permitting these techniques would be tantamount to experimenting on children, and that I cannot in all conscience condone.” 

The Church of England and the Catholic Church have also warned the Government not to rush through the change. 

The row is over a technique to prevent devastating diseases caused by faults in mitochondria, which power the cells in the body. 

Developed by scientists at Newcastle University, it involves swapping a mother to-be’s diseased mitochondria with healthy ones from an egg from another woman. 

Supporters, who include five Nobel Prize winners, say it would allow those in the shadow of incurable disease the chance of having a healthy child. 

It is estimated at least 150 babies a year could be born using the technique.

Chelsea star Diego Costa: My three-match ban is WRONG!

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Costa believes that he did not purposely tread on the defender's outstretched ankle during the Capital One Cup semi-final victory at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Video footage showed the Spain striker making contact with Can, but the incident was not seen by the referee.

However, a disciplinary panel found Costa guilty of stamping, hitting the Premier League's top goalscorer with a three-game ban.

Costa watched from the sidelines as Jose Mourinho's men drew 1-1 with Manchester City, keeping their five-point lead at the top intact.

And with two more games to serve, Costa feels that there has been an over-reaction to the incident.

He said: "As far as what happened on Tuesday, the main thing is when I get home and I can sleep knowing I’ve not done anything wrong, because I never meant to do that and it was not on purpose.

"And you can clearly see that on the video. But it is a suspension. I have to accept that, I have to take it. Obviously I feel sad because I’m not going to be able to play or to help the team. But I have to accept and respect it.

"I’m not saying I’m an angel — I’m no angel. You can see that. But every time I play I will play the same way because that’s the way I am. That’s what I need to do in order to support my family. That’s my bread and butter; also that’s what I need to do for this club, for the fans and for all the people involved in this club.

"On the pitch I will always be like that. That’s my character and I will always compete. I’m a different guy off the pitch — as you can see — but on it I will not change. And I want to say this again: you can look at the video and interpret it how you want but I know I can sleep in peace because I know I didn’t mean to do it."

Darren Fletcher makes SHOCK return to Man Utd as West Ham deal collapses

The Scotland international was expected to complete a free transfer to Sam Allardyce's side this afternoon, but reports claim that talks have collapsed.

It is understood that the Hammers were unwilling to match Fletcher's £75,000-a-week wage demands, despite making a push for a Europa League finish this season.

It has also been claimed that Fletcher's medical did little to convince West Ham's medical staff that he is able to play week-in, week-out at the highest level, and the 30-year-old now looks set to remain with Louis van Gaal's side until his contract expires at the end of the season.

Fletcher has been with United for his entire professional career, joining in 2003 under Sir Alex Ferguson, and has gone on to make 342 appearances in total.

However, the Old Trafford favourite has failed to find his feet again since being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis back in 2011.

After being named as vice-captain by his new boss, Fletcher impressed in 12 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but has recently found his way into the first-team blocked by the likes of Michael Carrick, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini.

Sterling's fifth league goal of the season early in the second half set the Reds on the way to a win that lifted them above West Ham in the table.

But as inspirational as the young striker was, this game will be remembered most for the long-awaited return of striker Sturridge after almost five months on the sidelines.

The England star had only been on the pitch 13 minutes when he made sure of the points with his second of the season.

Just to see Sturridge on the team-sheet for the first time since he suffered a thigh injury at the end of August had been a boost enough for Liverpool.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has wasted no opportunity to say how much the Reds have missed the prolific front-man, who smashed 21 league goals last season.

But with Sturridge back on the pitch and back in the goals, Rodgers will hope the Reds have finally banished the stuttering form which blighted the first half of this season.

While the Hammers pressed from the outset in search of a first win at Anfield since 1963, the clearest early opportunities fell to Liverpool.

Serbian wideman Lazar Markovic will be disappointed not to have done better than shoot wide in the sixth minute after Sterling had caused chaos inside West Ham's box.

And skipper Jordan Henderson was played-in by the front-man ten minutes later but shot straight into the arms of Hammers' 'keeper Adrian.

Sterling has clearly benefitted from his recent extended break and his running was causing no end of problems for West Ham's back-line.

But the 20-year-old England star had guile too, and almost opened up West Ham with a cheeky back-heel that set Philippe Countinho clear inside the box.

The Brazilian midfielder had a clear view of goal but could not manage to deliver his low shot beyond the reach of a diving Adrian.

West Ham mustered a response with ex-Liverpool stars Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll combining in the 28th minute, but the striker's header drifted wide.

And there was panic in Liverpool's box just after the half-hour mark when 'keeper Simon Mignolet failed to hold another Carroll header at the first attempt.

West Ham were almost undone on the stroke of half-time after Liverpool had strong appeals for a penalty turned down by referee Andre Marriner.

Sterling was wrestled to the floor inside the box by Joey O'Brien but, as the Kop screamed for the foul, Downing mis-hit a back-pass into the path of Markovic.

The midfielder had more space and time than he thought, but drilled a shot wide of Adrian's right-hand post.

When Liverpool's breakthrough finally came five minutes into the second half, it was fitting that it was at the hands of a rampaging Sterling.

There was still much to do when Moreno delivered a cross to the edge of the West Ham box from the left flank.

But Sterling chested the ball to Coutinho and, when the midfielder threaded it back into his path, the striker had already spun clear of defender Winston Reid before picking his spot in the bottom right corner.

Sturridge finally made his return after 67 minutes and Anfield rose to cheer him onto the pitch in place of Markovic.

And they cheered the roof off ten minutes from time when the 25-year-old marked his comeback in trademark style.

Sturridge combined ruthlessly with Coutinho then took the return ball in his stride with the outside of his right boot before drilling past Adrian with his left.

Frank Lampard shocks with potential Chelsea RETURN

Frank Lampard says Chelsea have already expressed their interest in his return

The Chelsea legend was allowed to leave on a free by the Blues and has since enjoyed a good spell on loan at Manchester City, netting five times.

Lampard will be returning to the Bridge as an away player this afternoon, but  it seems Mourinho still has a soft spot for the midfielder. 

Speaking exclusively to Soccer AM, he said: "Jose Mourinho and the club from the top have said they’ll love for me to be involved, whenever I want to go back."

He added: “Chelsea is like going back home and it feels such a big part of me. When you are part of Chelsea, I’ve seen it with people like ‘Chopper’ Harris and Peter Bonetti, they’re still there to this day. It’s a club that really looks after its players. 

"If the opportunity was there to go back, I would love to, as I had such a long career there. It’s a part of me – and that never changes.”

Lampard's return adds extra spice to today's clash between Chelsea and Manchester City, and Lampard admits it will be a moving affair.

He said:“It’s going be really emotional.”

“It feels like coming home for me. London will always be my home, particularly the west London and Chelsea area. 

"This game was always on the horizon for me and this week I’ve started getting texts and calls from people behind the scenes from friends and fans. 

“I can’t wait to see those people at Chelsea. Everyone knows the rapport I had with the fans there, and I still do, but people like Alan Barrett, who works at the training ground, Frank Stier, Teresa, who works in the press room at Chelsea; these are people I didn’t get a real chance to say goodbye to.

"Thirteen years together you make a lot of friends and create bonds with people. I’ll look forward to that, but most of all stepping on that pitch and being in that stadium, which was my home for so long.”

Vine goes child-friendly with Vine Kids app

Kids are known for having short attention spans and it appears Vine is banking on that with a new app that should also help put parents at ease.

The Twitter-owned video-sharing company rolled out Vine Kids on Friday to let children watch looping 6-second Vine videos that have been screened for child-appropriateness.

"Kids love Vine," Vine head of communications and marketing Carolyn Penner wrote in a blog post. "So, we built Vine Kids, a simple new app that gives young children a fun way to watch Vines."

Since launching in 2012 Vine has steadily grown its audience to at least 40 million. The video app is known for users who upload and share videos that show people doing goofy stunts, playing sports and other high jinks. In 2013, Vine had a dustup after a plethora of porn videos appeared on the site, which led Twitter to give the app a NC-17 rating. This newest Vine app, however, could easily be G rated.

Vine Kids features animations, Sesame Street characters like Elmo and videos with cute animals like hedgehogs and puppies. Vine's goal is to have a collection of videos for a young audience that are safe to watch.

The company picks the kids videos by choosing from its millions of daily uploads in its regular Vine app. Once a child tires of looking at one clip, they can swipe left or right to get a new video. By making Vine Kids a completely separate app, Vine has ensured that kids won't happen upon adult videos.

Vine Kids is only available on iOS.
